The shooting occurred on March 31, 2022, in the New Hyde Park garage of the medical facility where the victim worked.

Quay Sean Hines, age 33, of Bay Shore, was convicted in September of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre.

Hines waited in the garage with a loaded firearm and confronted Laguerre as she entered around 4:10 p.m., , Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced.

He then fired at her multiple times, striking her nine times before fleeing.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire, and Laguerre was transported to North Shore University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m.

“Hines was obsessed with his former fiancée’s desire to move on and leave their relationship behind,” said Donnelly. “He gunned her down because of his selfishness and his ego. He destroyed a family and took a young mother from her child.”

Police arrested Hines on April 8, 2022, in Merrick, with assistance from the Nassau County Police Department’s Bureau of Special Operations and Homicide Squad. He was sentenced today to serve 40 years to life in prison.
